NAVIGATING INSURANCE
HOW TO FIND OUT IF YOUR INSURANCE WILL HELP YOU PAY FOR THERAPY
If you have a PPO insurance plan you might be able to get reimbursed for therapy sessions with private-pay therapists. To find out if you're eligible for coverage call the membership number on the back of your insurance card and ask the following questions:

-
Do I have out-of-network coverage for Outpatient Mental Health Services?
-
CPT codes in California for these services (if they ask):
-
90837-1 hr. individual session
-
90847-Family session
-
-
-
What is my Out-of-Pocket Deductible?
-
This is how much you have to pay before insurance will cover services so even if you have coverage you want to make sure that doesn't only start after you've payed thousands of dollars for therapy on your own.
-
-
How much will I be reimbursed for services?
-
Your insurance company representative should be able to give you an estimate but please note, this is NOT guaranteed.
-
If you have coverage ask your therapist, or potential therapist, if they are able to provide you with a superbill. This is essentially an invoice proving that you paid for services. Once you get the superbills send them to your insurance company and they'll (hopefully) send you a check back!
